Johor to have two more locations for VEP tag installation

Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced the addition of two new locations in Johor for Singaporean vehicle owners to collect and install their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags starting from Sept 22. This move is aimed at easing the collection process as demand rises.

The new collection points will be at the Johor JPJ Complex in Taman Daya and the Road Transport Academy in Larkin, with the capacity to serve up to 800 and 400 vehicles daily, respectively. These are in addition to the existing TCSens office in Danga Bay, which currently handles 300 vehicles per day.

Beginning Oct 1, all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore via land routes must have a valid VEP. The VEP includes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag, allowing Malaysian authorities to track and identify vehicles on their roads. This RFID tag can also be used to pay tolls and the RM20 road charge levied on foreign vehicles entering Malaysia.

For Singaporeans who need help with the application process, the MY VEP office in Woodlands has been operational since Aug 19. Additionally, from Sept 12, motorists have been able to collect their RFID tags at this location for $39, with an added processing fee of RM10 for the tag.

To collect their tags, vehicle owners must book an appointment online by entering their personal details and selecting a time slot between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. JPJ has strongly urged foreign vehicle owners to register, install, and activate their VEP tags as soon as possible to avoid potential complications at the border. Vehicles without valid VEP tags risk being denied entry or fined up to RM2,000.

These new VEP collection centers, like the ones at Johor JPJ Complex and Larkin, are expected to significantly ease the process for motorists. If you’re planning to drive into Malaysia, make sure your VEP tag is ready to avoid any issues from 1st October 2024.
